National Recreation Industry Training Package, SRO03 V2

The training package SRO03 V2 is a key feature of vocational education and training for Outdoor Recreation in Australia

Competency Standards specify the level of performance of a person in the workplace

Assessment Guidelines provide a framework in which accurate, reliable and valid assessment of the applicable competency standards may take place.

National Qualifications are awarded when a client has been assessed as achieving a combination of competency standards at an appropriate level.

Where a client has achieved less than the full combination of competency standards for a qualification to be issued, that individual is given a Statement of Attainment .

Outdoor Recreation Assessment

Adventure Resources And Promotion Services' (ARAPS') principal workplace assessor, John Norman, has been providing Outdoor Recreation services since 1981 after spending 5 years training and leading Outdoor Recreation programs for the NSW State Government.

John has been or is an active member of the following peak organisations:-

Outdoor Recreation Council of Australia (ORCA) - Board Member

Outdoor Council of Australia (OCA) - Board Member

Outdoor Recreation Industry Council, NSW - Board Member

Outdoor Recreation Australia (ORA) - Board Member

Outdoor Tour Operators Association,  Australia (OTOA) - Board Member

Australian Climbing Gyms Association (ACGA) - Board Member

Sport & Recreation Industry Advisory Body  (SRITAB) - Committee Member

NSW Sport & Recreation Industry Standing Committee (SRISC) - Committee Member

and  he serves on several Outdoor Recreation Industry consultative committees.

All of the above positions are voluntary and unpaid. This is done as a contribution to the Outdoor Recreation Industry with a view to facilitating the delivery of educational, professional, environmentally sustainable experiences for those participating in Outdoor Recreation activities and to progress the process of identifying as desirable those leaders, guides or instructors who have been recognised, through formal assessment, of their competency in the Outdoor Recreation leadership role.

The Assessment will be carried out by a qualified Workplace Assessor, Certificate IV, Recreation, who will work to the guidelines and ethical requirements for Nationally recognised Assessment and Certification as authorised by the NSW Vocational Education & Training Accreditation Board (VETAB) and through mutual recognition by the State Training authorities in all States and Territories throughout Australia.

Student Selection

Assessee selection will be conducted in an ethical and responsible manner. Assessee applications will be dealt with fairly and realistically in a manner consistent with the requirements of assessment and in compliance with equal opportunity legislation.

“Recognition of Prior Learning & Recognition of Current Competency”

ARAPS recognise the opportunity for clients to be assessed who have gained their knowledge and skills through pathways other than formal recognised training. Clients seeking RPL and RCC need to indicate to us the areas in which they seek to be assessed.

An assessment strategy and schedule can be tailored to your needs.

Flexible Assessment:

It is important to consider reasonable accommodation for assessees with a disability. Reasonable accommodation can be defined as;-

A process where reasonable steps are taken to identify barriers and make appropriate modifications to facilitate opportunities for people with disabilities.

Assessment Support:

Clients who apply for assessment and have gaps in their level of competency identified will be directed towards further training and the opportunity for assessment at a later date.

OH&S

In all activities workplace OH&S is of paramount consideration for both the client, trainer and the assessor.
